About

Burwell Stories started in 2013 as a volunteer-run oral history project created for the ‘Fresh Wind in Our Sails’ restoration of Burwell Museum and Windmill, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. We recorded some wonderful living memories and personal histories of Burwell residents and wanted everyone to hear them. This website was launched in 2015 to help people discover the fascinating stories of local people and local events.

Oral history is fun to create and enjoy, but we believe it also has a wider importance within our community, developing a sense of local belonging and participation in a rich living history.
